First entry on Southern Cross. Murray and I noticed a while ago that there was very little in the way of active, informed discussion about South African affairs. The local print media leaves much to be desired and the SABCs news service could be charitably described as being of dubious value. Blogging seems to us to be an obvious way around this problem by allowing us to discuss issues and disseminate ideas as they arise. This is something that the Americans have picked up on very quickly and, unsurprisingly, blogging is still dominated by them and most of the best blogs are American in origin and focus. Indeed our preliminary research (half an hour spent on google) failed to dig up a single SA affairs type blog. So this is our attempt to rectify this glaring ommission and to inject a much needed voice into the SA news realm, that of the informed sceptic.

Blogging works best when communities of like-minded bloggers have arisen who're able to link to and discuss each other. Until more South Africans cotton onto the revolution though, we're just going to have to soldier on alone. But let this stand as a call to arms, fellow South Africans, get to your computers and tell it like you see it.

At some point, we're going to insert a links section but until then have a look here, here, here and here for a few of our favourite blogs. Just to give you an idea of what's happening out in the blogosphere.
